WHAT WAS ANNOUNCED?

Magento Commerce (Adobe) announced recently (https://magento.com/blog/magento-news/supporting-magento-1-through-june-2020) that they will end support for Magento 1 after Jun 2020. What this means is that no security or bug fixes will be issued after this date. This affects both the community and enterprise versions of Magento 1. Continuing to use Magento 1 after Jun 2020 will leave the site vulnerable to security attacks. You will also not be able to comply with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO?

To keep your business compliant and secure, you will need to migrate to Magento 2 or another eCommerce platform. However, to do so, typically, you will need to hire a team of experts to take care of the nitty-gritty details involved. You could be looking at a complex re-platforming exercise, which is never easy. The migration itself may take 3 – 6 months to complete depending upon the complexity of your store.

The Shoptimize Platform is an alternative that provides an easy migration path for Magento 1 customers. Shoptimize provides a fully managed SaaS eCommerce platform. We take on the hassle of migrating your data and custom functionality, and ensure a smooth transition to the new site without negatively impacting your business.

WHEN SHOULD YOU MIGRATE?

You should migrate right away. You can use this opportunity to refresh the user experience on your store and explore new integrations. With Shoptimize, you can further boost revenue growth by taking advantage of advanced analytics and personalization capabilities that are standard features of the platform.

WHAT IF I USE MAGENTO 1 AFTER JUNE 2020?

As stated earlier, using Magento 1 after Jun 2020 will leave your site vulnerable to security attacks. You will also not be able to comply with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS). Adding custom functionality will be difficult / impossible as 3rd party module vendors will drop support for their extensions.
